Here is a source that I got from google:

Because of the unexpected ending of the first bout, the World Boxing Council ordered a rematch, this time with Liston as challenger. The World Boxing Association disagreed, as immediate rematches were against its rules, and stripped Ali of his title. Originally scheduled for Boston, Massachusetts in November 1964, the fight was postponed six months when Ali needed emergency surgery for a strangulated hernia. However, since the promoters did not have a license in Massachusetts, the fight eventually was moved to a small auditorium in Lewiston, Maine, the state's second largest city. Due to the remote location (140 miles north of Boston), only 2,434 fans were present, setting the all-time record for the lowest attendance for a heavyweight championship fight.

The problem is they haven't cited a reference/footnote for this, like they do with the others.

Over the years i have heard from MANY sources(Including Howard Cossell interviewing Muhammad Ali) that there were only around 2,000 at the fight. You have to trust me and take me for my word.

If you can, please try and dig up some of these sources because I want to convince myself by looking at them first hand.

I find it quite absurd for only 2000 people to be at such a prolific event with two extremely well known fighters.

lol Amir Khan recently packed out MSG theatre with 5000

I have sources in books i have read.I have sources on my vcr tapes, and dvd's.I have sources from the ring magazine and other boxing magazines. The problem is i don't know how to put them on a computer.

Yes,it is quite absurd for only 2000 people to be at such a prolific event with two extremely well known fighters. But they could not find a place willing to hold the fight. Why? The death threats.Death threats on both fighters.Ali was now a ******(Back then they called them black ******s,and were hated badly and thought to be dangerous)and Liston was controlled by the mob.NOBODY wanted anything to do with this fight.Muhammad Ali was the most hated man in the country, and white america hated him. It's unreal he didn't get killed by a southern red neck. When the fight finally took place the boxing writers at ringside were wearing bullet proof vests. They were checking women's purses for guns who were attending the fight.

But trust me,only around 2,000 people were at the fight! I wouldn't lie to you.Maybe someone else will post a source for you.I wish i knew how to put things on the computer.
