Well this obviously has to be at Middleweight. Chris's prime was at supermiddle though for me.

I just think that the very best Eubank may actually take this one. I think he has prime Hopkins beaten for speed, power and combinations. Plus he is just as awkward and had one of the best chins I've ever seen. He wouldn't dominate Hopkins as Roy Jones did, but he may well have scratched a decision prime for prime.

Hopkins is rightly one of the best middleweights of all time, but I put this down to his consistency and length of reign rather than any truely amazing performance at middleweight.

I'd say that Eubank looked more impressive against Benn than even Hopkins did against Trinidad or Joppy.

To be honest I think Hopkins has been more impressive in the twilight of his career. He proved me wrong in my predictions with the Tarver and Wright fights and looked fantastic against Pavlik.

I ignore the aspects of the sport I dislike and focus on those I do. Or in the case weight classes mentally bump fighters up to the next legitimate weight class.

Now in a situation where practically every aspect of a sport changes into something I dislike I simply stop watching the sport. I used to watch the NBA back in the 1980s. When it turned into a wrestling match in the paint and a never ending series of 85-80 games in the 1990s I stopped watching it. It's kind of like having a favorite soda and then the company changes the formula on you to a flavor you dislike: Under those circumstances I'm not going to keep drinking that soda hoping I'll eventually tune out the fact I don't like the taste.

I must admit, I was very unhappy with Connisseur (sp?), the ice cream company, for changing the formula for Cookies and Cream. It was, without doubt, the greatest ice cream ever made. Amazingly delectable, rich, chocolate cookie pieces in a smooth, creamy, buttery vanilla ice cream that you could eat nineteen tubs of.....Maybe I should have been an American...

Anyway, it was simply divine, and then they changed the whole flavour to some revolting, cheap tasting, watered down, chocolate flavoured ice cream and crappy fake tasting cookie pieces. I've never been so heart broken in my life.

It's a wonder anyone would still buy it at all.

Hopkins would pose difficulties with his height and workrate, moreso down the stretch once he'd measured Eubanks awkwardness -but Eubank was looser and flashier, more creative and with better ring generalship and better lateral foot movement. Hopkins was quite upright and there for Eubank's body shots and defensive reflexes. Eubank.

In a fantasy match, however, as in the older Hopkins, we're looking at a borefest, a battle for ring generalship and economy; those sneaky overhand right punches leaned and ducked into from both. Maybe Hopkins would nick that.
