hey a boxing topic not involving may pac. thats a hard one for marciano see as how liston hit hard as **** and had that bizzare long reach. marciano bobbed and weaved but would take some hits from him. its hard to gauge listons chin in my opinion just by the ali fights but his heart is easy to guage. im gonna say marciano with his legendary uppercut catching him and koing him. its completely debatable but thats my take.Originally posted by Killer Angel View Post -

Marciano wins this if he is Prime! The 28 year old Rock was unstoppable.

Sonny Liston had both a very good chin,and good heart.He didn't quit against Muhammad Ali because he was hurt.He quit for the same reason that Roberto Duran did against SRL.
Watch Sonny Liston clean out the heavyweight division from 1959 to 1962,and watch a fighter with a great chin and alot of courage and heart.Remember,when Liston quit against Ali he was past his prime and was fighting the greatest heavyweight champion of all time!
Prime Sonny Liston was awesome with great power in both hands.He was said to be invinsible and unbeatable! He was bigger,stronger,and hit harder than Marciano.Liston would destroy Marciano within 2 rounds.This is a nightmere match-up style wise for Rocky.Comment

Liston wins this within 10 rounds, its a very bad style match up for the Rock
some facts:
Power:
If Charles and Walcott can go 15 rounds with Rocky, than the much bigger Liston should also be able to go the distance with the Rock. He did after all outweigh those guys by about 20+ lbs
Chin:
If Walcott could stagger Rock with a right hook and drop him with a left hook then, Listons harder punchers would be able to do at least the same amount of damage. also the Rock cut up quite easily
Range:
Liston could fight long range and mid range. Rocky could fight on the inside and at mid range, I think his chosen range would be mid range, because he tended to load up on his on punches i.e they prefered to fight at the same distance, its bad news to fight mid range with a fighter who outweighs you by 20+ lbs and prefers to fight at the same range.Comment

To the best of my knowledge Rocky never fought a prime 200+ fighter, who had a great jab like Liston's. Liston's jab was basically a power punch, the Rock would have to pay a high price everytime he tried to close the distance. He struggled to close the gap with Walcott at times he was basically jumping in to close the gap. I haven't studied Listons style in a while, but I know that the Rock was susceptible to the jab and the right hookOriginally posted by JoeyZagz View PostComment

Prime for prime I'll go with Liston.
Rocky never faced a big, heavy handed wrecking machine like Sonny, and Rocky was hardly hard to hit, I think Sonny Liston would seriously fancy the job! I cant see Rocky marching into range gung ho as he did with Charles, Walcott or Moore and if he did he would be hit by some scary punches.
Marciano had so much heart, but I think Liston smashes his face up much worse than Charles did in their second fight!
I think we would see a TKO, I dont think Rocky would take a ten count!Comment
