What was the diference between their styles ?
Not speed , not power , not chin , just technique alone :

    Ali-Holmes
    Tua-Tyson-Frazier-Marciano
    Chuvalo-Bonavena-Quarry-Ron Stander-Vassily Jirov
    Lewis-Vitali-Wlad
    Alejandro Berrio-Edison Miranda
    Cooney-Bowe-Foreman-Lyle
    Earnie Shavers-Joe Mesi

larry was more stationery with his jab while ali threw alot of his on the move

only thing tyson, frazier, rocky, and tua have in common is height.technique wise mike fought at a midrange while the other 3 like to get on the inside.mike also had a way more versatile punch set than the other 3.

wlad and vitali fight with their backs leaned back while lewis uses conventional stance.lewis an wlad also have a wider range of punches than vitali who mostly throws just strait left and rights

cooney had 1 of the silliest upercuts ive ever seen, while bowe was more textbook.george and lyle were brawlers, and george threw alot of chopping punches

Holmes threw body punches. You can count the number of times Ali threw body punches on two hands over his entire career. Ali's dancing was different to Holmes' in style.....not to mention the shuffle!

Holmes was arguably more effective at blocking left hooks with a high angled/almost deflective right hand.

I'll have a go at the others later.....

        What is the shuffle ?
I read about James Toney's shuffling style , is there any connection ?
I saw almost every James Toney fight and I don't know what does it mean.
and Holmes danced too , so what was the difference between their dances ?

And between Tua - Frazier - Marciano ?
Tua rarely uses straight punches , the SuzieQ was a straight punch , wasn't it ? and of what I've seen of Frazier , he almost did not use straight punches.

And Bowe and Cooney were brawlers too , weren't they ?

The Ali shuffle was some fleet footed footwork Ali pulled off whilst dancing before unleashing combinations. Watch Ali vs Williams for some excellent examples, he does it something like five times in three rounds, impossible to miss.

Ali's dancing differed from Holmes from a stylistic point of view. Ali's seemed to be 'mimic'ing a variation on his rope skipping, left foot twice, right foot twice whilst circling, but it was never this 'exact' and his stance was obviously wider than when skipping! I can imitate it but its hard to explain and I'm not going to film myself!!

Holmes could be found bouncing with both feet off the floor at the same time rather than separately (like Ali), but then again he would also bounce from one foot to the other when circling. Hell, its hard to categorise......but check out a few films and you'll get the idea.

tua, frazier and rocky are similar in that they needed to be inside to be effective.tua or frazier didnt throw a ton of strait punches.they were known as hookers.ive only seen a few rocky fights before i decided ive had enpugh of this nonsense.frazier was more winging with his punches while tua was more compact, and textbook like.all 3 are very limited though

bowe was probally the best boxing man ever.he was the complete package.textbook upercut, could jab,and unlike lewis,he didnt mind mixing it up.cooney was just a big doofis to me.i never saw what he brought to the table other than size.that upercut look like soemthing out a video game, and it was his best punch by far

Quarry was nothing like the other 4 you mention, Quarry was a counter-puncher, Chuvalo, Bonavena & Stander was rugged brawlers, Jirov was limited

Although you probably have seen more of Quarry than I did , it's hard to consider him a counter puncher more than Bonavena , as all the counterpunching I have seen of him was in Frazier 2 , while Bonavena also counterpunched Frazier , in Frazier 1 , however , Quarry did not counterpunched at all , just tried to outfight Frazier , and when he hurt him in the first round , he did not even try to capitalize on it.

you obviously have seen very little of Jerry Quarry, he was an exceptional counter-puncher.. check out his fights with, Bodell, Foster, Lyle, Mathis, Patterson 1 & 2, Spencer, Obilio, Miteff, Shavers, Alexander, Alongi
