  • Sugar Ray Robinson, THE MAN

I posted this in the NSB section but of course it only lasted an hour on the 1st page because people want to go on about the smallest details of Pac/Floyd for pages. But somebody said post it here, where it actually probably belongs hahahaha.

I was just watching Sugar ray vs Jake Lamotta VI on comcast ondemand(Go to sports-ESPN-Classic Boxing) it's the one were Robinson stopped him. I think this just shows how great he really was. The 1st rounds were jake rounds, I think Sugar Ray gets hit more easily then an ATG should be he has a great chin with a great offense so it's all good.

But as the rounds went on he just started getting better and better. It seemed like he got better as the fight went on. The later rounds were freakin awesome, they went at it! But Lamotta has an ATG chin and Sugar Ray just turned him into a numb punch drunk punching bag by the end of the fight.

This was like Sugar Ray at one of his bests. Before this I only saw his aging fights so I didn't know how I would see him fair against today's fighters but after watching these fights, I think he has a great shot against them all! I think if he fought now-a-days with the advancement in training/nutrition/ect., he would be an absolute monster.

R.I.P The Greatest of all time Sugar Ray Robinson!

His fight with Bernard Docusen for he Welterweight title in 1948, poor quality but oh well.
Can see here that Ray wasn't the best at eluding punches but he was in no way easy to hit either.

Here he is in the Featherweight Golden Gloves

And another fight from his amateurs

Credit goes to GreatA, SweetFights and dcamateurboxing for posting these.

There are quite a few other fights from his welterweight days floating around places, just need to search for them.

Yeah its a shame he fought back then, I would have loved to witness him today live or in high quality video. I wish we could trade and send guys like Margarito & Froch to back then and bring guys like Sugar Ray, Lamotta, Maxim, and Louis to these days.

I was actually kind of impressed with LaMotta's double jab for much of the fight, before Ray turned him into a pinata. The last three rounds were just disgusting.

Ray had an all-time great left hook. He could launch it by itself (Fullmer 2), throw beautiful double left hooks as he'd go from the body to the head, or knock someone out with a left hook in a combination.
