    Gene Fullmer

Does anyone else feel Gene's gets underrated in terms of greatness?

Cracking little resume, strong, iron chinned, and always fought the best. Only ever man to beat Robinson and Basilio twice each.

    Fullmer's Resume
    -Paul Pender
    -Gil Turner
    -Del Flanagan
    -Ralph Jones x2
    -Charles Humez
    -Sugar Ray Robinson x2
    -Spider Webb x2
    -Carmen Basilio x2
    -Florentino Fernandez
    -Benny Paret
(Plus draws with Joey Giardello and **** Tiger)

    Thoughts?

Yeah, totally agreed. And in his own right Don was a capable little fighter.

I think Gene is underrated in terms of taking fighters out of their fights and making the most out of his physical assets, against Robinson he wouldn't give him an inch, against Basilio he boxed and ran Basilio into his shots and against smaller pressure fighters like Turner, Paret and Miceli he overpowered them. The fighters he had the most trouble with were guys who were physically stronger than him and this is best evidenced in is losses to Lausse and Tiger. I'm a big fan of Gene and I think many people criminally underrate him, I think his pressure style and adaptibility would translate into any era and he gives any MW fighter in history a tough night.

Agreed. He is known as a brawler but he could turn boxer also, usually against fighters who could match his strength (most notably against Basilio and Tiger). His brother Don was noted for his boxing skill. Fullmer was a true spoiler and would be a tough opponent for almost anybody at middleweight.
