IMO his knowledge wasn't up to scratch with some other broadcasters, but his interviews with Ali and other boxers were legendary , I prefer him to any of todays Biased fools
He was much more fun and overall the better broadcaster then any of todays, his boxing knowledge was often off it's true but that's isn't what people loved him for :P.
Yea, I liked his broadcasting......he seemed to genuinely like the fighters. He was funny, likeable and distinctive.
He did have some odd views, he was convinced that Larry Holmes had a bad chin and there were broadcasters with more knowledge like Don Dunphy, but I'd still rate him as a broadcasting legend!
After his death plenty of info has come out about how bad of a person he was and treated people.
I see Cosell as a broadcaster who put entertainment before sincerity in a broadcast. You better believe he was very biased. If he liked the fighter he would exagerrate or focus on anything they did.
When first saw Hagler-Antuefuermo I thought that Vito deserved the draw or possibly the win. But put the volume down and watch the fight, and some of the rds that you think Vito won were mainly due to Cosell's tone.
Cosell was a lawyer and not a broadcaster, so it took time for him to make the tranisition. I like Cosell for entertainment purposes and the interviews as someone mentioned.
I thought the fight Doctor Bernie Pacheco was much better than cosell and many others.

I think you meant Ferdie Pacheco.
And yes I do agree Pacheco was a great announcer, I especially liked his little jokes lol. It was funny how he was calling Pernell Whitaker, "Pee Wee" throughout the Chavez fight.
But Howard Cosell is the best announcer IMO......way better than that Bias piece of ****e Lampley or Merchant.
Back in 1977, former Minnesota heavyweight Scott LeDoux who is now an outspoken tv pundit, decked and outboxed a fighter by the name of Johnny Boudreaux, only to see the decision go against him..
He was so incensed, he publicly charged the verdict had been fixed and when Cosell tried to calm him down, LeDoux knocked off his toupee.. Funny stuff!
