    Who is-was your favorite fighter(s)?

    Don't name any active fighters.

Often when the history section discusses fighters and how great they are I detect a bit of a popularity contest. Fighters you like are going to get a better rap than fighters you don't. So ignoring resumes and who's greater, who did/do you like alot?

    (optional)
Why did they gain your respect?

I started watching when i was a kid and my favorite is Muhammad ALI of course he was a mega star then and so many people lost money on the Holmes fight back here.

My 1st real favorite is Luisito Espinosa he's a 2 division champion with a good streak of title defense at Featherweight.

I always how respectful Joe Louis and Alexis Arguello were. You could tell they were just good people. Glad their career was great because they deserved it.

I've had lots of great fighters that I've followed and been a fan of but my all time favourite fighter was Michael Nunn. He made it look so easy, shame he was a lazy and ****y **** he could of reigned for a long time and been as good as SRL.

I'm far from being a nuthugger where my favourite fighters are concerned.

Also I have to say my least favourite fighter ever, and I literally hated (the hate mellows as you grow older) the guy and that was Marlon Starling. I went to see my boy Honeyghan live twice and the beating he suffered against Breland was humiliating, but how he let his emotions get the better of him in his defeat against Starling still angers me today. He hated Starling more than I did and that cost him.

If I could change one result from boxing history it would be Honeyghan vs Starling.

Joe Louis: As classy as they come, all business and no BS trash talk.

BTW, regarding the "popularity contest" thing: It's much worse in NSB than in the Boxing History section. While we do have a loose cannon or two most of the top posters in this section are objective in their assesments. We also get the occasional NSB loon popping in here on occasion

In all the years of watching the sport the fighters I most looked forward to watching fighting were:

                  Mike Tyson
                  Naseem Hamed
                  Chris Eubank

I'd be jittery all day and wouldn't sleep after their fights! Even when these fighter were post prime.

But the following retired fighters are my faves of all time (In no order):

                  Muhammed Ali
                  Larry Holmes
                  Jersey Joe Walcott
                  Ray Robinson
                  Ray Leonard
                  Willie Pep

I guess I like the low hands, fast hit and move style with great combination punching. I'd add Roy Jones, but hes not officially retired and Whitakker never quite inspired me the way the above guys did.

                    Evander Holyfield.

It really upsets me that there is a good chance he was on PEDs, because he was all fighter. Outsized in a very strong HW era and he more than held his own.

I also really liked Dwight Qawi and Matthew Saad - there was something about those light heavies in the early 80s.
