Almost all the boxers mentioned early on this thread were NOT originally trained by either Angelo or Eddie.
For example Marlon Starling was trained by F. Mac Buckley at Memorial Gym in Hartford Ct.
Most of the fighters mentioned went to Angelo because he was one of the better strategists in the corner in getting the most out of his charges that night.
Eddie was the gym trainer and a solid programmer who knew how to teach and was respected by all fighters. They were both very good when they had a fighter that was best suited to what they did best, as any other trainer would tell you. Being versatile is a key for longevity but every trainer has their niche' that they do best! Having knowledge is one thing but if you can't teach a student you won't be successful.

All though their styles were different both Eddie & Angelo were stern and compassionate men and extremely successful.
I doubt one was "better" than the other when you look at their careers.

Funny when a fighter looses the trainer needs to mentioned but when they win the trainer is in the background!

Neither was over rated that's for sure! Ray.

Eddie Futch - Larry Holmes, Rid**** Bowe, Mike McCallum, Alexis Arguello, Bob Foster, Michael Spinks, Ken Norton, Joe Frazier, Marlon Starling, Don Jordan, Montell Griffin and Trevor Berbick

Eddie Futch imo trained the better boxers including 4 of 5 which beat Muhammed Ali.
Only the losses to Norton and Frazier should count, Berbick and Holmes beat up on a corpse....heck Ali almost beat Berbick lol

But I'd go with Futch too, although it's difficult cos a lot of fighters which were trained by Dundee and Futch were not done so from the early stages of their careers. Futch and Dundee were often called in as fixers.
