Every fighter has his haters. DLH has an abundance because every ugly mother ****er with a gf wants to hate on him because his girl wants to watch only his fights so they can look at Oscar.

Ray Leonard dealt with the same thing in his prime.

I wouldn't but that's just me. I think it's more fair to say that people wouldn't hate Floyd so much if his FANS didn't act like such douches.

It is what it is. Now personally I like Oscar and dislike Leonard (not because Ray was a "Golden Boy" but because I find him a grade-A azzhole). That being said, I'd never dream of saying Leonard didn't deserve his high standing as a fighter: He was one of the true greats and his noxious personality can't detract from that. I think Oscar is a borderline great who could have been a solid great if he hadn't made some questionable decisions in the ring.

Poet, we must have submitted our posts at the same time and it's funny we both mention Ray Leonard.

Leonard dealt with hate from a mass majority of people, who really don't know jack about boxing. What do you think the reason for their hate was?

I think it has a lot to do with looks. Nobody likes a pretty boy in an ugly game.

Guess that makes sense. I thought Ray Leonard was very popular in the 80's, though.

Exactly! It's that whole "Golden Boy" image that rubs some the wrong way. Screw 'em! If that's their excuse for hating on a fighter than they have WAY too much time on their hands and they're investing WAY too much emotionally in **** that doesn't matter much in the overall scheme of things.

Brian Nielsen should have definitely been in that list.
But of the mentioned names , I voted Jones Jr. : over the hill Pazienza , McCallum , Vaca and Trinidad which he also fought way above their best weight. A severely drained James Toney. A weak HW champ Ruiz.
Shot and never been Lacy and Sheika again above their best weight.
A green Anthony Hanshaw above his best weight.
And I even did not bother checking his record recently.

Toney: has only himself to blame for being in that condition
Ruiz: True, Lewis was the champion and Ruiz was a belt holder
                Trinidad: Just a money fight
McCallum: was for the interm WBC belt, which was later on upgraded to the full WBC belt
                Vinny paz: no comment

Vaca had stopped Mark Breland and beat future champion Quincy Taylor twice. I actually thought Jones was crazy for taking that fight, but he proved me wrong.

The fight should have been contested at 154 , but surprise , Jones could not make the weight and came in at 157.
Jones was much bigger than the guys you mentioned and than Vaca himself.

I think there's a bit more to it where DLH is concerned. He had considerable popularity, but only until he got that gift decision in 97 vs Pernell Whitaker.
I don't often use the term 'Nuthuggers,' but from what i've seen, Sweet Pea has more of these than most fighters. I wouldn't dispute the fact that Oscar blatantly lost that fight, but he'd have a lot less haters if the judges had gone the other way.. In my opinion, he should have got the nod against Trinidad and Mosley II, with the Mayweather fight also a being a very close call.
I tend to think, it's mainly the Whitaker nuthuggers who are to blame for his consistently low ranking on many ATG lists. Basically, Pernell's 'should've won' performance, was far more convincing than any of Oscar's, but is this a good enough reason to see Whitaker 20 odd places higher?..
