I rate walker very high he was a great fighter who also moved up the weights, but i just rate hearns that little bit better
If greatness was judged on resume of wins, Fritize Zivic and Jimmy Bivins would be Top 25 ATG fighters, but they aren't.
Herans just can't compete with Walker achievements imo.
Walker was undisputed Welterweight Champion, Undisputed Midlleweight Champion. Beat TWO LHW Champions in non title bouts and was a top 10 ranked HW Contender and took future Champion Jack Sharkey to a draw.
That is amazing, and Walker was doing this while being a blown up 170lb'er. Walker was a world class elite fighter from Welterweight To Heavyweight, that is just insane.....Can you imagine Andre Berto evetually going up to HW and getting a draw with David Haye? Never in a million years.
And Walker's resume of wins is also pretty incredible......Pete Latzo, Lew Tendler, Mike McTigue, Tiger Flowers, Tommy Milligan, Paul Berlenbach, Ace Hudkins, Leo Lomski, Johnny Risko, King Levinsky, Paulino Uzcudun, and Maxie Rosenbloom.
Mickey Walker>>>>>>>Thomas Hearns. All Day

Walker by 20-30 spots.
Walker is still the only ex-welterweight champion to be ranked in the HW division, I believe. His draw with Sharkey, who makes my top 40 all time middlweighs, is possibly the single greatest p4p result in the history of the sport. He beat better guys.

He beat better guys.Tommy Hearns knockout over roberto duran was one of the most devasting performances in boxing history! And walker didnt beat sharkey he got a draw! when walker fans talk about the sharkey fight they talk about it like walker won! which he did not!! Former lightweight title challenger sam langford went up to heavyweight and knocked out harry wills that is the single greatest p4p result in history! Also i think hearns has the better resume and back in 1981 hearns had the title of best pound for poundb fighter in the world, and he won more titles in different weight classes than walker!

Yeah, I meant to say HW. But regardless of the opposition, finding his way from the WW title to the HW rankings is an exceptional achievment.
I wonder if Hearns could have achieved the same thing given the chance? I don't think Ring ever ranked him at CW, but most of the guys Walker didn't beat that many guys who were bigger than the then CW limit...Hearns always had the vulnerability above light-middle, but he might have been able to box his way into the HW rankings. I guess we'll never know.
Regardless, I'd rank Walker above Hearns at WW, MW, LHW and of course his achievments at HW outstrip anything Hearns did at CW. He beat more HOF fighters, travelled further in terms of weights tackled, beat more greats. The argument for ranking Walker below Hearns is honestly non-existant in my opinion.
