        Well spotted.. But I think you'll find that is the sum-total of his amateur and pro careers combined.. His amateur record is actually 295-21-0 (273 KO)

        Still unbelievable when you consider that he started boxing at 10 years of age in Jan 79 and turned pro in Nov 88, which means that he had 316 amateur fights in just under 10 years.. This equates to between 2 and 3 amateur fights every month!

            He may have done, but I know he lost a split decision to him, and this was to represent USA in the Soeul Olympics.. Mercer then went on to win Gold..
