  • Did Vassiliy Jirov Reach His Full Potential?

Or did that Toney fight ruin him?

Jirov going in was 31-0. And had made 6 defences of his Title. 5 by KO.

He was super strong, patient and powerfull. He also won the 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist at Light Heavyweight and beat two future PRO world champions in them (Julio Cesar Gonzalez and Antonio Tarver). And won the Val Barker Trophy for Outstanding Boxer at the 1996 Olympic Games.

He seemed to have so much potential. But after that Toney fight he was just never the same.

Do you think he reached his full potential or he got as far as he got?

he very well could've been mentioned alongside holyfield at cruiserweight. he seemed to have lost direction after toney. it's funny because i think toney did the same thing for a few years. he passed the torch i guess.

The fight with James was a tough one where Jirov threw a lot of punches, and he got hit a lot in return.

He was rocked and dropped very badly in the 12th, and was getting hit heaps, James was finding him all night with short counters. James wasn't a destructive puncher at CW, but he could still hit, and with great accuracy. Took it's toll on Jirov for sure.

he only lost his belt because tony was on roids.

and he nearly killed joe messi (who robbed him)
