I think the talent pool is getting smaller in boxing. Its not on tv often. Where I live they don't even have ring magazine anymore. 10 years ago I used to be able to buy them. Now they have WWE,Kung FU,And Ufc mags. I think the general public know less about who the champs are in each division then they used to. I don't think as many kids take up boxing these days. They just are not exposed to it enough.

I was thinking about this the other day.I assume the majority of the guys mentioned will be hanging them up in the next 2-3 years, and whether their is enough young talent out there to fill the void

Personally i think their is.america has lots of super talented young guys; the andres, bradley, alexander etc plus lots of prospects on their way up

South america has guys like alvarez, gamboa, rigondeaux and juanma

The british scene is looking better than ever in terms of young talent as are the europeans with guys like Korobov,Golovkin etc promising to do big things

If you look throught that list of fighters you will see most of them are still fighting at top level or some sort of championship class! alot of fighters seem to be hitting there prime in there late 30's in boxing now look at sergio martinez

Some on that list really aren't fighting at a high level anymore though. Case in point: Evander Holyfield. Holy should have hung them up a long time ago. In cases where older fighters are still major players I tend to think it's due more to a gap in talent where there younger fighters coming up in their respective divisions weren't very good which allowed the older fighters to stay on top a lot longer than they would have in a division where there was a steady flow of good young talent.

I think boxers and sportsman in general know how to look after their bodies better these days. Archie Moore was a very clever re nutrition etc and a bit before his time so stood out in those days maybe it is more the norm now.
I also am a firm believer in that a fighter (depending majorly on his style) only has so many fights in him, maybe the fights they are having arn't taking it out of them like they have in other eras?

I tend to think it has more to do with ring intelligence coupled with a style of fighting that doesn't put a lot of wear and tear on the body. Fighters such as Moore, Walcott, Hopkins, and Toney are perfect examples: All of them won a lot of fights using their craftyness and ring smarts long after their reflexes had deserted them.

Another factor for sure, you might want to throw Duan in with those names too
