Basilio......quite a good fighter..very strong. He beat SRR in their first bout @ middleweight i believe (Basilio started as a welter). SRR beat him in the rematch.

however the thing thing remember is that when they fought SRR was arguably out of his prime which most concur would have been around 5 years earlier when he had his fights with Randy Turpin.

    But overall a solid fighter.

Basilio was a very good fighter and one of the greatest value-for-money fighters ever, he took part in 5 Ring Magazine Fights of the Year which is testament to his crowd pleasing style, Basilio had a never say die attitude in the manner of Bobby Chacon & Arturo Gatti, Basilio won world titles at both 147 & 160lbs beating several IBHOF fighters in the process, several of his losses in the 1950s was due to `underworld conections`... How good was Basilio - very good

I liked Basilio as Sonnyboy says great value for money. Interestingly though if any of you ever read In This Corner, which I recommend anyone does as it is as good a boxing book as there has been, Basilio gets some fearful criticism for other fighters.

no idea where i'd put him on an atg list, and i'm not a fan of what he had to say about ray robinson, but he's top 10 on my favorite fighters to watch list. a tough guy in a crowd of tough guys.

Just saying what a dreadful unskilled fighter he was. I'll dig out some quotes when I dig the book out. Should add they are his opponents thoughts not mine.
