    George Chuvalo

What fighter past or present could knock this man off his feet? Joe Frazier and George Foreman got the K.O.'s, but neither knocked him off of his feet. I would love to see what Liston, or Tyson, and Shavers could do.

Seen many of his fights have tons of respect for him. Forman was absolutely teeing off on Chuvalo for quite a few rounds, These were full power shots. The Ref had to stop it but Chuvalo was pissed right off and complaining about the stoppage he was not rocked at all. And Frazier knocked his damn eye out of the socket and he still did not go down. You hear Chuvalo speaking these days he is still very articulate, his brain suffered almost no damage. Also these punches he took came from the best Heavy weight era ever. No one at anytime anywhere puts him down for the 10 count. Maybe he could be caught off balance and be knocked off his feet though by someone.

Ali called him the washer woman lol, but he was a very underrated puncher, and had the Mob not ******** him b4 he fought Ernie Terrell for Ali's old WBA strap, then he may have become a champ..

Lol, I saw a press conference where Chuvalo came out dressed as a washer woman. It was funny but a little weird even looked like Ali was a little disturbed by it. I saw an interveiw with Chuvolo and he said for the longest time he could not figure out why he called him that. But when watching one of his fights he said he noticed it looked like he was treating a guys face like a scrub board. He said he thought that is where Ali got that nick name from.

Also I think Chuvalo did enough to win against Ali in the first fight. Which is saying a lot since it was before the Ali was suspended. And the Patterson fight was close.

at around the 1:20 point in this video it shows Chuvalo pummeling a guys face while he is arched back over the top rope. That's where Chuvalo thought Ali got the nick name washer woman from.

Cheers for the vid!.. I'd seen it b4, but not for a long while..

He gave Ali a tough fight alright, but 'enough to win' is a bit on the optimistic side..
I thought his fight with Patterson was closer tbh..

I'm from the Toronto area so my opinion could be a little biased in that fight. I may have been seeing things the way I wanted to see them. I should watch it again but I find the picture on the computer a little to bad to judge fights. For classic fights I usually wait for them to be on espn. I should watch the Patterson fight again also, I thought Patterson had a clearer win then Ali.

You'd know about the terrible tragedies he's had in his life, losing 2 of his 4 sons to heroin addiction, which ended in his wife committing suicide..
The fact that George is still normal, beggars belief.. Helluva strong character!

True, he showed tons of character in and out of the ring. He speaks at schools against drugs and is a real class act. One of his son's blew his head off, the other two overdosed, I think his wife overdosed on something also. Many people take the easy way out or the path of least resistance. People like Chuvalo are examples that you can overcome extreme hardship if you make the choice to do so.
