Maybe a factor is sociological, boxing has traditionally been a way out of poverty, maybe to be poor in America is to be poorer than in Britain?

I know in London there are no where near the boxing clubs that there were when I was a boy or even my son, can't speak for America though.
Think it is the same as its always been, we generally have a few decent champions/contenders which is probably numerically about right for our population.

Ezzard got it spot on, population! Just look at the size of America compared to little old Britain, no suprise that the Americans have more world class boxers.

The fact that over the last ten years Britain has produced world class talents who have been rated in the top ten pound for pound by American magazines like the ring is a testiment to British boxers.

We are only a small nation amongst Europe, let alone the world and we have produced among the following world champions in the last ten years, several have been rated pound for pound top ten at one point or another:

      Naseem Hamed
      Lennox Lewis
      David Haye
      Ricky Hatton
      Amir Khan
      Paul Ingle
      Joe Calzaghe
      Carl Froch
      Junior Witter

Not mentioning several good contenders and world champions who borderlined on genuine world class like Enzo Macanerelli, Danny Williams, Gavin Rees, Clinton Woods, Howard Eastman.

We also have some good fighters coming through like Kevin Mitchell, Kell Brook, Frankie Gavin and James Degale. Wouldn't suprise me to see these guys becoming established world champions.

America does have the best trainers and gyms no doubt, Steward, Richardson and Roach are terrific coaches. But the fact that British fighters have worked with Steward and Roach indicates that these great trainers respect our talents.
