Great question, two terrific boxers. Fantastic matchup. Prime for prime similar size, similar KO power.

Both had speedy hands but Patterson had the edge, however I'd say that Walcott had the better defense......more slippery. Both were great technicians. To be honest both were a little vulnerable around the chin too.

Walcott was a faster starter though, Patterson often started slow. In a three fight series I'd favour Joe to win the first fight by KO in the first half of the fight. You would have to give Patterson a great chance in a rematch though, the guy was so fast and his left hook was lethal.

Both fast guys with power and dodgy chins, with Walcott being a better technician with better D, Patterson a little more offensive.

I'd say Walcott by KO, catches Floyd coming in with a counter.

Look at what Floyd did to Archie Moore. I suspect that this might go the same way. The 1947 version of Walcott that almost KO'd Louis would stand a much better chance of taking him.

Agreed Ezzard, I didn't really look at the years quoted in the title. But yes 1947 Walcott was probably prime.
