  • Underrated Wins/Win, For A Ceratian Fighter?

Name some underrated wins, for a certain fighter. A win that you just feel dosen't get talked about enough, or not given enough credit.

I'll start with, Ruben Olivares's win over Jose Luis Ramirez. Very underrated win. Olivares was finished at that time, but still managed to KO the iron jawed Ramirez, which would be the only time, he would ever be knocked out.

    Carry on.

Erik Morales' win over a 34-1 Paulie Ayala. He handed him a pretty sound beating.

Tommy Hearns' wins over both Virgil Hill and Roldan. The former just being an impressive win for a past prime fighter, the latter being a recent piece of history.

Mark Johnson's victory over Fernando Montiel. Montiel has gone on to have a nice career and was an up and coming flyweight champ. Johnson took advantage of a hesitant Montiel and showed his experience in that one.

Jack Dempsey's win over Fred Fulton, who a few fights earlier had give a beating to the great sam langford. Also dempsey win over tommy gibbons is under rated.

Randy Turpins win over heavyweight contender don ****el, who went on to fight marciano after turpin beat him.

An old Carlos Monzon's 2nd win over Rodrigo Valdez who was the only man to stop bennie brisco. monzon got up of the floor to to tame valdez in a great battle.

Pac's win over DLH is over rated also.

Marciano over Louis is over rated seeing how Joe was 37 and Marciano was like 28.

Morales over Pac is under rated and all anybody remembers is Morales getting destroyed by steroid induced Pac.

Since you mentioned Mark Johnson his win over Alberto Jimenez is a very good fight and a win that you never see talked about. It's something that to really understand how meaningful it was you have to see the fight, Jimenez put on a very good effort, technically and with just physical force and it was a very close fight but Johnson was the better by a tiny bit that night and that is a real testament to his talent.

Humberto Gonzalez has a few, I don't think I've heard anyone ever cite his victory over Jung-Koo Chang who is arguably the best Jr. Flyweight ever as one of his laurels. Another thing that never seems to get mentioned is that Gonzalez came back and beat Carbajal twice decisevely, it is not really said but somewhat implied (at least it seemed to me) that Carbajal was the better fighter of the two and afer seeing the second and third installments an seeing Gonzalez outbox and outwill Carbajal it's just not true.

how is it overrated? i've never once heard anyone say joe was anywhere near his prime for that fight. it's not a great win, but who ever said it was?

while we're on the subject, charles walcott and moore are tremendous wins that never get their due credit.
