Hint: This happened at Madison Square Garden in the mid-1940's.

Since the ring announcer announced the scores in the first Louis-Walcott fight, and that took place at Madison Square Garden in 1947... well, then this will have to be my guess!

This happened almost 4 years before the Louis/Walcott bout.

Your getting closer! 1944 is the year.

The winner of this bout was a very good friend of mine and when he passed away, I gave the Eulogy. Back then, I would give Eulogy's only to boxers that fought out of New Jersey, now I give them in New York and Pennsylvania as well. So now you know the winning boxer fought out of New Jersey.

If my last guess got me closer, and we're talking about a New Jersey fighter... then it might be Ike Williams??

It wasn't Williams. I did have the pleasure of introducing Ike Williams several times and we even put up a monument in Trenton of him. In fact we also put up another monument of the boxer that I am looking for, in his home town.

I asked Ike once, who was the greatest pure boxer he ever fought and he said it was the same boxer I am looking for.
