Sports Writer John Owen's ''Archie Moore Was The Greatest Fighter Of All Time''

''Archie could do it all'' Box, Punch, Spoil, Defend''. ''The complete fighter'' ''Got the Light Heavyweight Title most likely in his 40's and never lost it''

''Archie could of even been greater given more chances''

He recently said this on a sports radio show in the UK I belive.

I don't agree that he was the greatest but I do agree that he could do it all in the ring. But then again so could many others.

He's not even the greatest 175 pounder of all time. I wonder if Mr. Owen ever heard of Ezzard Charles. He owned Moore.

Archie Moore was a great fighter with great skills but his footwork was "Shabby"

          Archie was great.

          But the greatest?

Maybe the greatest puncher of all time.

Archie Moore is the most underrated boxer in history.

He's certainly in my personal top 10 favourite fighters of all time. but Ezzard took him three times at their peak.

Charles certainly had the Indian sign on Moore, would argue though as to whether that was during Archie's peak. I realise that he was entering his middle 30's but for me his peak was in the 1950's and the only man apart from a heavy to beat him then was Harold Johnson. And Moore pretty much had an Indian sign over Johnson.

Charles won all their three fights but he didn't have it easy. One of the fights ended in a close decision while in the third fight Charles looked to be on his way out when he caught Moore on the chin and knocked him out. But Charles deserves all the credit in the world for beating Moore three times. He was the only man to do so.

However it was his showings against Charles that opened a lot of people's eyes on Moore's abilities, surpisingly, even though Moore lost the fights.
