This seems a mystery to me......hardest hitting puncher of all time, with a pretty good resume in the golden era of boxing........Earnie Shavers should be inducted into the hall of fame....who else agrees with me?
Why hasn't Earnie Shavers been inducted into the BHOF?

Except for his destruction of Norton, he lost every big fight in his career. Was ko'd by Holmes, Lyle, Quarry and Cobb. -
The same argument could be made for Gerry Quarry and Ron Lyle, but the hard truth is, all 3 were made to look very average by Ali.. Earnie's only real claim to fame, was coming within a whisker of winning the title from Larry Holmes when he KD'd him for an 8 count in their 2nd fight, but in all honesty, that was probably the only round that he actually won, in the 20 odd rounds they fought one another..
Shavers had good KO's over Norton and Young, but was poleaxed himself by the 2 guys mentioned above, so by HOFFA standards, i'd say he doesn't quite cut the mustard..Comment

Shavers does not deserve to be in the IBHOF.. Shavers was a very limited boxer who holds a KO victory over a washed up Jimmy Ellis and a shot Ken Norton.. Shavers lost every time he fought an opponent who was above class C levelComment

Not quite i'm afraid..

Well stated and to the point. Shavers doesn't deserve induction.Comment

The boxing hall of fame is a fanclub not a measure of greatness. Usually any fighter with a sizable fan following will get in. The problem that Shavers, Quarry, and Lyle have is that their fan following petered out at the end of the 1970s as their careers wound down. They may still get in though. Don't be shocked to see Gatti and Ward get inducted: Neither are great fighters by any stretch of the imagination but both have a rabid group of hardcore fans.
