He may or may not have given Hagler fits but Benitez didn't belong at 160 and the Hamsho fight showed that.

And the same could be said that duran didnt belong at middlleweight as hearns, robbie simms and kirlind lang proved! but he still won a title at that weight and gave hagler alot of trouble

Yes, I think a 19-20 year old Benitez at 160 would stand a very good chance of nicking it..

I feel a peak Marvin Hagler would beat any version of Benitez at 160lb.

Hagler would just be to strong, matured, and to good a fighter for Benitez, who didnt belong at 160lb especailly against a top 5 fighter at the weight.

But there is a chance a focused Benitez could make things interesting.

I think if Benitez had fought Hagler right after he beat Duran he had about a 50-50 chance to win. Hagler after the Duran fight was more of a complete fighter as he realized that by jabbing with his left would leave him open for right hand counters. Personally, i still give the edge to Hagler in a 15 RD bout since he would methodically break down people. Benitez was great defensively but his chin was average not exceptional.
