    Let's talk about Charley Burley?

I heard about him before but never really did any research until someone mentioned him today in this forum. I managed to do some research on him and it seems like he was a bad ass, being avoided by ATGs like Robinson and Jake LaMotta.

What is your opinion about Charley Burley?

Yes. That is saying something, something huge. Being avoided by the P4P greatest of all time is crazy. The quote "Too good for his own good" can describe him I guess.

Burley fought in a golden period of the welterweight and middleweight divisions when fighters like Tony Zale, Rocky Graziano, Jake LaMotta and Sugar Ray Robinson strode atop of these divisions. he is now lost in history black hole. With no championship belt, Burley might as well not exist

A great, great fighter. I remember one of the great trainers (Eddie Futch maybe?) saying Burley was the best he ever saw.

Don't neccessarily agree with the highlighted part, Burley gets name checked in here far more than Zale does, and rightly so.

Very good fighter. It just doesn't always work out for some guys, a useless log like Primo Carnera gets a hold of a HW title, great fighter like Burley gets nothing.

Burley is vastly over-rated... we can only go by what we watch on film and make up our own judgement of the fighters, i have footage of Burley and IMO Ray Robinson would completely destroy him as would many other greats at 160lbs Burley falls into the Harry Wills & Sam Langford catagory, its all here-say and what could have been stories.
