I think Toney would get peppered from range from the boxing Hearns through the early rounds. Toney's chin should be good enough to handle Hearns right hand so he should be able to make it through any rough patches. As Hearns tires as the fight goes on Toney gets closer and closer to Hearns. Eventually Toney's counter right hand lands with such frequency that Hearns finds himself in big trouble and gets cleaned out in the late rounds, giving Toney the KO victory even though he was behind on most cards.

They both had solid right hands, but I think Toney could take a better punch. I see it being Hearns' fight till he gets KOd. Probably in the 8th.
Would be a good fight!

Hearns had as much speed as Nunn and he was certainly a much more accurate and dangerous puncher than Nunn ever was.
fat Toney was never consistent at 160.He couldn't fight the full three minutes and often fought in spurts, often relying on his dangerous right hand.
Hearns was an old fading fighter by the time Barkley fought one of the greatest fights of his career and stuck on Hearn's chest and swamped him.
Toney is a completely different fighter to Barkley, there is no way in hell that he could have fought at the same pace, with the same consistency as Barkley fought against Hearns.
So a winning streak of Merqui Sosa, Alberto Gonzalez, Michael Nunn, Reggie Johnson, Francesco Dell'Aquila, David Tiberi, Glen Wolfe, Ricky Stackhouse and Mike McCallum (inc 1 draw) isn't consistent.. OK, he was terribly out of shape Vs Tiberi & Wolfe, but came back incredibly well to defeat McCallum..
Hearn's on the other hand had 5 fights at 160, Hagler, Schuler, DeWitt, Roldan and Barkley, comprising a record of 5-2-0, strongly suggesting that 160 wasn't his best weight..

Hearns was no where near as big of a puncher when you put him on his heels thats why he could not KO De Witt or Barkley.
Kalambay & Benn both smashed De Witt, admittedly De Witt could of been considered past best when he fought Benn/Kalambay but still....
Toney beat Barkley & De Witt to a pulp to the point where the fights had to be stopped because they were taking too much punishment, again De Witt might be considered past his best but lets be honest its not like he was that good to begin with and he gave Hearns a helluva fight.
I know some of these fights were at different weights but Hearns got hurt against Roldan,Kinchen, KTFO Leonard, KTFO Barkley, KTFO Hagler.
Its true that Toney fought in spurts but here is the thing, you dont need to be throwing lots of punches to pressure on someone to sap their stamina, you can persue them without throwing and still make them expend energy with just the thought of an attack. Toney made Nunn work harder the he wanted to even though he was not throwing that much.Last edited by Dynamite Kid; 01-22-2010, 08:03 AM.

I just dont see how Toney doesnt eventually catch up to hearns at some point of the fight and catch him clean. You have to assume that hearns stamina is going to come into play at some point, as well as Toney having the ability to roll the punches with ease. I think Toney could struggle early, but if toney is focused, i dont see how Hearns avoids him for the full 15
