James did look dazed there. He handled it exceptionally well though, stayed cool, and hung in there till his head cleared. -
I watched a couple times and it was a very close fight. It was Johnson was not really known then(except for a couple cable fights). It was one of Toney's toughest middleweight title defences. No offense southpaw16BF, but fighting southpaws are a pain in the ......Comment

This was the most hurt I've seen Toney other than the Peter fight.
Although Peter didn't drop Toney in the first fight (and the KD in the rematch was a balance shot), I thought Toney was hurt a couple times in the first fight.Comment

Outside of the Roy Jones fight I don't think he was ever completely out of a fight with anyone. Whether it was Toney, Castro, Jackson or Tarver.
He won a couple of titles along the way as well.Comment

He caught him up on top of the head and had James holding the rope to recover. It's crazy that Toney can take shots from guys like that and keep ticking.Comment

Seriously underrated fighter who always fought in good company, and I believe was never stopped or KO'd.. Most of his defeats, including the one to Toney, were lost on split decisions that could have quite easilly have gone either way..
He beat men such as Lamar Parks, Steve Collins, Ole Klemensen & William Guthrie with comparitive ease..Last edited by mickey malone; 11-24-2009, 06:16 AM.Comment

One of my favorite Johnson moments is when he was thought of as a through fighter and he was brought in to showcase the talents of IBF Lt. heavy champ W. Guthrie. That was fun.
And new IBF Light heavyweight Champion!!!!!!!!!!!Comment
