Norton wasn't in his prime,it was still a good win and impressive as it was that he took him out in the 1st round but Johansson knocked two elite heavyweights out in their prime.

Well the era of which Johansson fought in,didn't exactly include numerous titles. In fact, there was only one title rather than the two that were held during Shavers time.

Well speculating on how a fight would go between two different fighters from two different era's doesn't apply in reality.

Jimmy Ellis couldn't knock Floyd Patterson out,Muhammad Ali couldn't knock Floyd Patterson out and neither could Jerry Quarry knock Floyd Patterson out,and these three men failed when Floyd Patterson was a quite past his prime(not washed up by any means however).

Earnie Shavers isn't a more accomplished heavyweight than Ingemar Johansson, and I don't know how many others would argue that he was.

I wouldn't have called either of them accomplished to be honest, Johansson had no where near the skills that Patterson had but he caught Patterson. Shavers had more power than Johansson and I wouldn't have said that Johansson had a lot more skill than Shavers neither were exactly dancing masters.

i would fancy Johansson over Shavers...
Norton was at the tail-end of his career when Shavers KOd him also Shavers knew that Norton was afraid of him which makes the fight much easier..Both Foreman & Cooney done a more brutal KO Job on Norton than what Earnie did... take away Shavers decking Holmes and his claim to fame is very minimal..Renaldo Snipes hit Holmes "Twice as Hard" as Shavers did..Muhammad Ali was very much on the slide when he beat Shavers, both Frazier & Henry Cooper hit Ali far harder than what Shavers did (they lifted Ali off his feet).. infact Frazier finnished Ali as a fighter (Manilla)

Shavers ended Norton as a top contender. He was coming off a 15 round SD loss to Larry Holmes, one of his best efforts. Against Cooney, Norton was simply shot.

I don't see how Cooney or Foreman did a more brutal KO job on Norton. They all brutalized him. Norton actually outboxed Foreman for one and a half rounds until getting caught. Shavers ran right over him.

Snipes hit Holmes harder than Shavers? Ask Larry Holmes that. Shavers nearly decapitated Holmes with the right and the canvas woke him back up.

Shavers hurt Ali worse than Frazier.

Johansson had skills. Shavers was a bit underrated in that department as well.

Patterson to me was more explosive and faster than Johansson although he didn't have heavier hands. Johansson however was quite quick on his feet and avoided Patterson's combinations in their first bout. In the second fight Patterson adjusted by making his way in with the jab and constantly backing Johansson up.

The third fight was just a brawl with all skills thrown out the window.

              Speaking of claims to fame

It was Ali who actually finished Frazier off as an elite fighter,Foreman did the job on Ali a year prior to Manila and his post Zaire performances pretty much prove this.

Well um....Johansson caught Floyd more than once and he won a world title in doing so.I don't see how winning the world title(even in todays scene) isn't an accomplishment and I don't see how destroying a prime Eddie Machen in one round(Sonny Liston couldn't even do so in ten rounds) isn't an accomplishment either.

they say ernie shavers had power or ernie shavers is the hardest puncher ever, well i say no,i do not believe this for one moment,he had average power for his era,and he was deemed to have this so called the heavy hitter stigma because other than foreman there were no other ****ers, how could someone with this enormous punching power not win a title and lose to average club fighters, the hardest puncher,no

You must have a considerable list of those who hit harder then?

                      Muhammad Ali`s words...

                      Sonny Liston was the scariest.
Floyd Patterson was the best boxer.
George Foreman was the hardest puncher.
But the Roughest & the Toughest was Joe Frazier.
