What do you know/think of this fighter? He was the one Quartey beat to win his welterweight title. Seems like a solid fighter. It was obviously a close fight before Quartey smoked him in the 11th.

    He's Venezuelan, like Valero.

He was winning the fight against Quartey imo, he was throwing so many punches and outworking Quartey.

He hammered Meldrick Taylor to. Taylor could not fight him outside because he was too short, he was getting caught on the tail end of his shots, he could not stay inside because he was getting hit with hard shots.

Known as 'Claws'... Came over to the Barney Eastwood stable with S/Middleweight, Victor Cordoba.. Both, briefly became world champions and then seemed to vanish from boxing.. Can remember Espana living with an adopted Irish family.. He was a good fighter, and I thought he was going places at the time..

Espana was a good fighter, i seen him beat Meldrick Taylor at Earls Court on the undercard of Lewis vs Ruddock yet Taylor was not the same fighter he had been 4 or 5yrs earlier.

Taylor was pretty done before Espana got him. He was coming off a bruttal ko loss to Norris and had fought himself to a weight that he was too small for. You see he was a featherweight as a amateur and moved to lightweight when he turned pro. But according to The Ring, there was not room for two lightweights in the Duva stable. Whitaker was real good to add. So Taylor went to light welterweight and eventually met Chavez. Later was able to beat Aaron Davis at welterweight but in his other fights at 147, he had trouble with the size and strength of them.

Yes, he did have an odd physique didn't he.. Extremely long arms (hence the name 'claws') and a thin, but wide torso.. Much like a 2 legged beetle!
I'm gonna check his reach out, I think it was something quite freakish..

He did to.. I can't find anything on his reach measurement though, All I know is that he was a southpaw, but something tells me, it was awesome.. I might be wrong, but I wonder if anyone knows?
It's also strange that he retired so suddenly.. He had 30 something fights & only the one defeat to Quartey, with most of his victories inside the distance.. Maybe he done a Hamed, & hung em up because of his first defeat?

Yeah, probably. Some guys that have a perfect record and then lose, they just can't take not being undefeated anymore...sad.
