Jack johnson - How good was his chin?

He was kod a few times in his career. He was floored by a middleweight in Ketchel. The reason i can't rate Johnson as the greatest is because i question his chin.

He never really got hit clean. He either rolled with the shot, the opponent was muffled and couldn't get full extension on the punch or it was partially or fully blocked. The only one who really hit him clean on the jaw from what I've seen(and anyone can feel free to correct me). was Willard and that was from a big man who put his whole body into that shot so no way that means Johnson had a weak chin. I think it was solid but nothing exceptional.

        - - The fight was fixed in advance by both, but Ketchel as with most n'er do well ruffians reneged with an unexpected power shot that humiliated JJ who promptly disposed of the miscreant.

Got a ways to go son, so good to see you prowling the ring again. Better here than stepping outside these days...

You have any proof of this? I'm calling bullshlt (as usual with you).

You can clearly see Johnson going down even before the shot lands. He didn't get dropped. He planned to go down to sell some film.

He fought a lot of smaller or washed up opponents so it’s had to say. He also wrestled the bigger ones and tied them up a lot. Gunboat Smith dropped him hard in a sparring session that Johnson’s manager cut short. This was in preparation for the Ketchel fight.

With his hugging style, he really limited the action. Chins are best tested when they are hit. A fighter named Joe Choynski iced him. And another named Stanley Ketchel dropped him. These men were well under 180 lbs. I say his punch resistance was average at best for a heavyweight.

Choynski got to him very early in his career and Ketchel didn't really drop him.

He fought Langford and took his power while giving him a terrific beating. His chin was clearly good enough.

                  - - As always, Jeffries had hugely more success vs same opponents that significantly include Choynski.

He fought a developing 23 yr old Langford weighing 156 lbs. He fought developing Jeannette who beat him and developing McVey.

Novice Klon***e Haynes knocked him out.

I'd say he developed his stinker style from these early encounters

The bulk of Johnson’s loses that you guys bring up (Choynski, Klon***e) were when he was green.

Langford was no walk in the park for anyone.

Jeffries didn’t want any part of Johnson or McVey even when he was young.
