      • Been watching a lot of Archie Moore fights. Man, what a warrior he was, so underrated, so much respect to this man, he fought everyone, different weight from Middleweight all the way up to Heavyweight. Amazing human being and a true gladiator. Deserves so much more respect than he gets.

Yeah, it was a good win.

Canelo won't get enough credit from the average Boxing fan because his fans are so rabid. But that was the finest performance of his career and a real achievement.

I am more impressed by Canelo beating that version of Kovalev than I am of Armstrong beating a shot Barney Ross - or pretty much any of Armstrong' Welterweight Championship fights.

                • Jones vs. Ruiz

                  - Damn Ruiz was stupid. It's almost like he was a trained dog, in a dog and pony show, responding exactly as Jones wanted him to.

Still, he hurt Jones, very much foreshadowing the future in store for Jones.

                  - Jones fought an excellent fight strategically. And his power served him well. A lot like Canelo, it has been difficult for average fans to appreciate Jones because his fan base is soo ludicrous and gushing in their praise. A very good fighter, maybe top 50 P4P, but if the fight with Ruiz is the greatest performance of his career, it leaves much to be desired.

                  - the ref was fookin annoying. Waaay too involved. He really stunted Ruiz's performance. And denied us a much more exciting and competitive fight.

I wonder if that's why English/European Boxing became so stale and static, the Helicopter Referees refused to tolerate fighters fighting it out for themselves.

                  • Ali - Frazier II

                    1) Of the series, this was the worst. It was like Frazier let Ali get even.

                    2) It's amazing, though, what passed for a classic in the day. It was only a 12 Round fight, and these guys both weighed less than 220 pounds, but they were absolutely exhausted and swininging wild about half way into the fight.

                    3) Ali fought a near GENIUS fight. Ali wasn't the best defensively, or technically, but he was very, very crafty. Pair that with his insane athelticism and kevlar jaw, he could figure out a strategy to beat most opponents. This fight doesn't get the attention the Rope-a-Dope has, but it was just as important.

Per Howard Cosell, Foreman had said Ali needed to clinch with Farzier after firing off punches. Angelo Dundee got the memo, but Eddie Futch didn't. Frazier let Ali fire off combinations so that he'd expose himself to Frazier's counter-attack. Unfortunately for Frazier, Ali stiffled Frazier's attack inside. A very effective tactic, which Tony Perez wrongly permitted across the the entirety of the fight.

                    4) Dundee is better than Futch. Both Ali and Frazier left a lot to be desired. Neither man would be confused for Roberto Duran or Vasily Lomacehnko. Far from it. But they were well trained. In this fight Dundee's superiority to Futch showed, and it was in the simplest of ways: Ali knew to clinch with Frazier and pull down the back of his head. Futch never protested that abuse.

                    5) Both the boys were BIG. Frazier and his gedunkadunk looked like he was trying to fight his was into an old country buffet. Again, compared to something like Fury-Wallin these two look like Kimbo Slice, but it was fun seeing the fat boys have at it for hoecakes.

                    6) Even if this was the worst of the Trilogy, Tua-Ibeabuchi is considered a classic, but is a Poorman's Version of Ali-Frazier II. Frazier at least threw punches in bunches. And Ali at least knew to try to fight from the outside. In both cases the bigger man threw two-fisted multi-punch combinations, while the little man threw the harder, cleaner power punches. But quantity overcame quality.

                    7) Look at Dempsey, Frazier and Tua and you can see a clear trajectory, the size goes up, but the punch out-put and heart go down.

                    • - -Ortiz vs Deyonce II

Strategic masterpiece by Ortiz painting over the prison tattoed wilder for 7 rds.

Alas, it took Deyonce 7rds, but he tapped into his rt hand erasure and like a tag team, Bayliss swept up the crumbles.

Onward thru the fog he staggers still moaning over Fury...only in boxing!!!
