He had a great career but perhaps tasting his first defeat took the fire out of him. IMO he should have never retired because he was still on top of his game at that time.

And then he made a glorious comeback against Mayorga, but then stranded again against Wright. That fight is a mystery to me. I know Wright is a great technician and a very awkward fighter, but Tito beat Whitaker and some other awkward fighters before.

      So what did go wrong?
Trinidad was never the same after the beating Hopkins gave him. Pacheco was a shill for latin fighters promoted by Don King, especially when he worked for Showtime. When Pacheco worked with Marv Albert on NBC, he was an excellent color commentator. He was so biased on Showtime that he was hard to listen to. I was glad when he finally retired. Him calling Trinidad the next SRR was a disgrace, and I'm Puerto Rican. Trinidad had a great career. Should have never came back after the whipping Bernard gave him.

His mistake was the same as the mistake Pac is about to make. Continually moving up in weight until you lose.
He should have stood in 147 longer then moved to 154 and ended his career there.

TITO NEVER DUCKED ANYONE!!!!! Fought UP the scale in weight and challenged whoever was next in line. (unlike a former boxer-promoter who fought DOWN the scale, and got his *ss beat. even losing to a 3 division lighter opponant, who made him QUIT) TITO fought bigger stronger fighters, and WILL be in BOXING HALL OF FAME!!! So answering your question! NOTHING WENT WRONG WITH TITO TRINIDAD!!!! He was about fighting, for himself and his fans...NOT ABOUT CONNING HIS "RAZA" OUT OF THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY!!!!!!

            Lack of good fundamentals.

Anytime he was up against an opponet with better fundamentals than himself, he always found himself drowning in deep waters. (Oscar, Bernard, Winky.)

If he had stayed at welter/light middle theres nothing to suggest that he couldn't still be campaigning now.
              Spot on as usual SugarJ..

It was a combination of things. First he didn't have the size advantage he enjoyed at the lower weight classes, second he started relying to much on his power, third and most important Flix Trinidad Sr.

His dad is the biggest reason his career stalled, he was too dumb and proud to admit he wasn't the right trainer for Tito. He also influenced Tito's retirement when it was clear he could still fight he just needed another trainer to help him deal with people who wouldn't stand and trade with him.

In all I feel Tito had a great career but it could have been much better if it wasn't for his father.

Ah yes, the fathers...I think there should be a law against fathers training their sons as pros. It never worked out well. Look at Jones jr, Mosley, Delahoya...

If I recall correctly and im not 100% sure but Erik Moales was trained by his dad his entire career untill the very end.

As for tito, he should've stayed at welter. Someone said this and it was right on "he moved up too fast".

What a great talent gone to waste. He was fun to watch
