Amazing to think that Gunboat Smith beat Langford, Smith was another with a lot of "names" on his record mainly losses though:
      Harry Wills
      Harry Greb
      Fred Fulton
      Willie Meehan
      Jack Dempsey
      Billy Miske
      Kid Norfolk
      Jack Dillon
      Battling Levinsky
      Fireman Jim Flynn
      Sam Langford
      Georges Carpentier
      Jess Willard

It was a questionable win. But hey, he's yet another Philadelphian Heavyweight to show a great fighter up.

As do I, but my understanding of this fight was that it was an exhibition with a view to having a title fight, hence Langford was said to have carried Ketchell.
Worthy of mentioning though and has always been on my top 10 fights i'd love to see.

            Another Philly man?
I get the feeling you'll claim anyone who set foot there
You'll have to list them for us one day I knew there was quite a tradition but suprised at how many.

If they fought an exhibition, then they must have had more than 1 fight. The one I'm talking about was legit.

Might be my aged brain I guess but do have that thought nagging in there.

I know Frazier is always linked with Philly but both him and Liston were born "down south" share cropping country wern't they?
So the Philedelphia connection comes from what gym they fought out of?
