When I started this thread, I figured there would be hundreds of real historians out there, who would enjoy a good trivia question.

And sure enough; within an hour GJC weighed in with a 6-man solution to the Dempsey - Cooney "brain teaser". But since then... nothing!

To help things along, I'll give you a clue: None (not a single one!) of the 6 names suggested by GJC are to be found in the correct 5-man solution.

Hope this gives someone a good idea.

no but really i spent like 30 mins tying to figure out who archie more fought that jack sharkey also fought so i could cut out louis and marciano. seems like there isnt any one in that categoery.

as soon as you said that none of them were right and i started from scratch took me about 5 mins.

since when are dempsey and cooney considered great punchers,if dempsey were fighting to day he would look like a string bean with the power of a welterweight and cooney a great puncher you must be kidding he took a lot of great punches to the jaw,all he had was a average left hook

yeah johnson was hidden in their, i pretty much just went through and checked each link looking for some one that fought well past the guy i was looking at. i got jhonson then the first link on his was herschel.
