Monzon-Benvenuti II. Somebody please explain...

After a great first fight where Monzon won the middleweight championship with a 12 round KO over Nino Benvenuti in what was FOTY in 1970, the rematch was a huge dissapointment.

The fight is here below. can somebody give an explanation why it ended in such an unfulfilling manner especially considering that the fight was held practically in Benvenuti's backyard?

Benvenuti's corner probably thought their fighter was in more trouble than he actually was and threw in the towel. Benvenuti obviously did not agree with their decision to end the fight.

That's exactly what happened. Even Cosell was puzzled as to why the towel was thrown in

Yeah. It was just odd that they didn't want to give their man the benefit of the doubt. At least they could have waited to see if Monzon was teeing of succesfully again.

It was really a bad corner decision. But hey maybe you can say that it's better to be safe than sorry.
