Ray was a heavy handed, two fisted ****er who got guys out of there with every punch a prize fighter can throw. But the left hook especailly was a wrecking ball. If his man was still standing after it landed, Ray Typically followed it with a straight right. But he usually didn't have to.

I'd say one of Ray's greatest knockouts is when he knocked out fellow prospect Shamus O'Brien in 3 rounds the date was March 1945.

Like so many great black fighters of that time, Ray never did get a chance at a Title. But he did get to face Light Heavyweight Champion John Henry Lewis in a non title bout in Georgia. Lewis was nearly blind in one eye at the time, but he stayed with the hard punching Ray out fought him late and stopped him in the 12th round.
