They were fantastic fights that put both guys on the map..
Harding took the title from Dennis in an epic battle..
By public demand a re match followed..
Pre fight, Harry Carpenter warned Harding, that Dennis was a lot more experienced, & would have learned from the 1st fight..
Harding responded with, " Sure, he's more experienced, he's been KO'd & I haven't"..
Andries responded by KOing him in the 7th..
Think the rubber match was won on points by Harding..
These were clashes between 2 very hard men indeed..

Andries should of won the first but tired in the last 2 rounds.


Talking of great fights with plenty of knockdowns do you remember Dave McCauley vs Fidel Bassa I & II, can't remember how many knockdowns the 1st fight had but I think it was more than Hearns vs Andries.

Yes I do.. The first of these epics was one of the last title fights to be held over 15 rounds.
I think this was the fight with all the KD's culminating in a late TKO (13th I think)
Unfortunately, McAuley also lost the return by 12 round UD, but went on to outpoint Duke McKenzie for another version of the Flyweight title (WBO) I think.. He defended it 4 or 5 times b4 dropping a DC to Rodolfo Blanco.. Reminded me a bit, of Johnny Owen (RIP) He was a real fighting Irishman.. Regards MM
