LaMotta had a win over a prime Ray Robinson, only once out of six but if you knew anything about these fights you would know that he might as well have won two or three of them since they were all very close aside from the last one.

Aside from that he had wins over Holman Williams (HOF), Marcel Cerdan (HOF), Fritzie Zivic (HOF), Bert Lytell, Jose Basora, Tommy Yarosz, Laurent Dauthuille, Robert Villemain, Bob Satterfield, Tony Janiro, Tiberio Mitri, Bob Murphy, George Costner, Walter Woods, California Jackie Wilson, Tommy Bell, Joey DeJohn, Norman Hayes, Gene Hairston...

You won't find many boxers with a deeper resume than this.
My boy Holman Williams would have beat LaMotta's ass if he wasn't washed up.

LaMotta beat a lot of GREAT guys. But he didn't beat them at their best. 16 lb weight disadvantaged Robinson is not what I call at his best.

Robinson was at a weight disadvantage but as far as his fighting abilities he was pretty much at his best.

In the fifth fight with LaMotta, Robinson was a solid 150 lbs while LaMotta weighed 159. Still a 9 lb weight advantage but not as extreme as in the second fight. Robinson won a disputed split decision and called it his toughest fight.

You could also make the case that LaMotta was past his best by their sixth fight, since he had great trouble making weight and had nothing left in the later rounds.

Holman Williams was past his prime but not shot. He had lost to Marcel Cerdan but many thought the fight could have gone either way. Williams' late career record is a bit deceiving because he was still troubling world class opponents.

Not saying that it is as great as beating a prime Holman Williams but still a notable win for LaMotta.

Baldomir beat an overrated Judah and a washed up gatti and was shut out by Floyd. Lamotta beat Robinson and Cerdan

only an ******* would compare Lamotta and Baldomir. Sorry dude but you need to get off your meds. Most of lamottas losses came because he was either out of shape or disinterested. He was an fing killer. Im not saying he was SRR, but he did beat him.

I always find Jake Lamotta never gets enough credit around here. Lamotta was one hell of a fighter.

Do there was 16 pound weight advantage, he still beat a prime Ray Robinson. He also pushed Ray hard most of there other fights beside there last encounter, were he was past his prime. Lamotta also thought he should of got more than just one of his 6 battles against Robinson.

Lamotta also held wins over Fritzie Zivic, Tommy Bell, Holman Williams, Joey DeJohn, Marcel Cerdan, and Gene Hairston. All very good wins especailly the ones over Cerdan and Williams.

Lamotta also weren't as badly as some make out, he had pretty good upper body movement, and could avoid shots well, he also when he wanted to had a solid boxing brain. I respect Carlos Baldomir, but he isn't as good as Jake Lamotta was, and is a very long way off. Lamotta in his prime was one hell of a fighter, and good beat most on his best day.

His lack of consistence was due to struggling with weight aswell as not turning up 110% motivated, he also got the Title past his prime.

Holman Williams is a very underrated fighter.

When it came to style Holman Williams was a talent so far ahead of his contemporaries that stable-mate Eddie Futch once said that he would rather watch Williams shadow box that watch most other fighters in the ring. Essentially a product of the Detroit boxing gyms, where he trained with Joe Louis and Futch, Holman Williams was one of the great crop of black fighters that battled in the 1930's and 1940's. One look at his record will show that this slick boxing defensive wizard fought the best welterweights, middleweights and even light-heavyweights around at the time. Con****uous by their absence however, as on most other records of the standout black ring men of the day, are meetings with big name white fighters.

Holman Williams opposed Cerdan and LaMotta only after he had been a professional fighter for close to fourteen years, losing to both of them on points. The only fighter to beat him consistently while in his prime was the largely ignored Louis 'Cocoa' Kid who beat Williams eight times while losing only three decisions.

Other great black fighters that opposed Holman Williams were Charley Burley, Jack Chase, Lloyd Marshall, Kid Tunero, Eddie Booker, Joe Carter, Bert Lytell, Aaron Wade and Archie Moore. Practically every one of these men was avoided by the higher ranked white fighters of the day, (and were mostly avoided by a certain Ray Robinson). All of these guys had to fight amongst themselves opposing each other on a regular basis just to get a payday. Williams fought the great Charley Burley seven times with three wins apiece and one no decision, (though it has been said that they fought each other more than twenty times all over the United States in cash fights), Burley was one of only three fighter to stop Williams.

Besides his great talent one barrier to Williams' quest for a title may have been that Joe Louis managed him for a time, though largely ineffectively. A great asset in the gym due to his marvelous boxing skills and great sense of humor. Holman was liked by everyone he met and was a credit to the sport. After his retirement he helped in the development of young fighters in Akron, Ohio, assisting Lee Thornton. When Thornton opened the Club Wonder, Williams helped out as a weekend maintenance man. One weekend, while asleep in the club he was killed in a fire that engulfed the club.
