I read an account from a doctor who stated that Bat didn't feel pain the way 'normal' people do. He suggested that the nerves didn't send painmessages to the brain. He was also impressed by Bat's low heartrate.
BTW Mark I'd love to read your book some time. I'd love to learn more about the great Joe Gans.
stanly k? really??? j johnson beat his ass like nobody's business.
i could name a few guys who seem unhuman as they are so advanced compared to everyone else, but i doubt the names would be recognized.
oooh, i see hagler mentioned. he was awesome. used to watch kung fu flivks before fights to get in good mindset. very interesting fighter. and a damned good one at that.
Sam Langford Pound for pound the Geatest fighter of all time! henry amstrong and Manny pacman are reading the book he wrote about beating bigger fighters.
Joe Frazier - Not much to be said here. He kept coming at you regardless of how badly he was getting beaten. You could hit him with one of the corner posts and he's probably still keep coming.
Carlos Monzon - Beast. That about sums it up.
Marvin Hagler - As someone said, a very interesting character. His training camps were absolutely brutal and his war-like mentality, and attitude in the ring was basically kill or be killed.
Diego Corrales - Heart like a son of a *****. Everytime he got dropped he always got up. And even when he was in over his head, like he was against Mayweather, he was absolutely pissed when they stopped the fight. Same goes with Casamayor and the insane cut he had in his mouth. He still wanted to keep going and was once again, visibly pissed off when they stopped the fight.
