  • asians who deserve to be in canastota

asians are very underrepresented in the HOF... theres really a treasure trove of talents here... it just so happens thats the big fights are being held in the US for obvious purposes...

i really hope fighters around here would really take advantage of the opportunities given to them by western promoters and the exposure made possible by the emergence of manny pacquiao...

who are the asians do u think deserves a place in canastota?

it seems that boxing is more of an american or european sport. so my guess is that any asians wold have to work twice as hard just to get recognition.

however, in asian fight tourny's, americas get the same amount of love - from the last 40 years or so.

there is also the problem of nationalism, which i was just discussing with a friends of mine.

Jung Koo Chang should be the Hall, imo. Quality fighter with some stellar names on his resume. He's probably hampered by 1. Not being well known in America and 2. being from one of the tiny, less glamorous divisions.

I feel alot of Asian fighters don't get enough respect or the credit they truely desrerve. There been some great one's over the years, especailly at the Lighter Weights.

Veeraphol Sahaprom- Made 14 defences of his WBC Bantamweight Title. And held onto it for 7 years 1998 to 2005.

Pongsaklek Wonjongkam is still active, but his best days are behind him. He made 17 staright title defences of WBC Title. And held onto the title for 6 years, all defences were made in Thialind and Japan which could hurt legacy.

Jung Koo Chang known as the ''The Korean Hawk'' has been eligible for Canastota for years now, as he he retired in 1991. He made 15 defences of his of his Light Flyweight Title, before losing it to another Hall Of Famer Humberto Gonzalez on UD 12 in 89. And would challage twice for the WBC Bantamweight Title losing both attempts, before retiring. He is worthy of a Hall Of Fame Place, but as some stated not fighting outside his native country and not being well known in the USA dosen't help.

We still won't know if Sahaprom or Wonjongkam will get in as one is still active and the other hasn't been reitred long enough.

But i should think both should get in, Khaosai Galaxy never fought outside his home country and has been inducted into the Hall Of Fame which is a good sign for Asian Boxers, Galaxy was a animal in his prime and lived up to the Nickname the ''Thai Tyson'' well.
