One of the most famous boxing urban myths is the one about Willie Pep winning a round against Jackie Graves without throwing a punch. It's been debunked a few times but still crops up often.

There used be a story doing the rounds about Sonny Liston being dropped 7 times in a sparring session with flyweight Pone Kingpetch. Complete nonsense of course, but you'd be amazed how many get taken in by it.

I heard that a 14-year-old Tony Ayala beat the crap out of Pipino Cuevas in a sparring session when Cuevas was welterweight champ.

Jack Johnson used to wrap his penis in gauze before giving exhibitions to make white women swoon and white men jealous.

Another legend surrounding Jack Johnson is that he tried to sail on the Titanic and was barred because he was black, a story popularised in a blues song by Lead Belly. It wasn't true though, I don't think he was even in Europe at the time.

Yeah, I've heard that one, too, but it's been widely discredited. The penis and the gauze is legit, though.
