Have seen this fight many times before (as i have this in my Frazier Tape Collection) but always nice to watch again.

At the time this was pretty anticipated battle between two young hungry unbeaten lions. Fighting for the most prestegous Title in Boxing the vacant NYSAC World heavyweight title.

These two also had alot if history ''The U.S national amateur champion in 1964, Mathis beat Joe Frazier in the Olympic Trials that year but broke a hand. Frazier substituted and won the Gold Medal in Tokyo''

Which made the bout more anticapted.

Both fighters give it their all, and Frazier heart and strength come through. But it wasn't completey one sided as the referee had the bout even going into the 11th 5 rounds to 5, with other two judges having a Frazier lead.

Frazier in his prime was a brillant bobber and weaver and this would get him inside to launch his barrages of hooks from the soles of his feet. He would roll his head and dip his shoulders, making him very hard to hit cleanly at times. Was always in great shape in his peak years, and had great stamina.

He did particulary well against the squat two fisted type opponents. Twice against Jerry Quarry, he carved up iron chinned George Chuvalo, and clearly outpointed South American Oscar Bonavena in their rematch.

He also had a good chin, he did withstand the blows of punchers like Bonavena, Foster, and Quarry.

He had one of the biggest hearts boxing has ever seen, and also so much courage.(Belived to have fought most of career wth one eye).

And in his ''Prime'' was one hell of a Heavyweight. And i also belived his Heavyweight reign get overlooked he made 9 defcnes of the title and held onto it for 5 years.

After this defeat Buster Mathis would never fight for a World Title again. After this loss do, he racked up a 7 staright wins wins one being over iron chinned George Chuvalo in what was considered a minnin upset on a UD in 69.

After this do it went all down hill, he lost his last 3 of 4 before he finally hanged up his gloves.

One of those losses was to Muhammad Ali, in which Ali would win a UD, and also deck Mathis in the process, this fight was for the NABF Title.

A win would follow, before Mathis was destroyed by ex Jailbird Ron Lyle getting KO'D in 2 rounds in 72. And then he would retire for good.

He was a brillant amature winning The U.S national amateur champion in 1964.

And he was Extremely fast for such a heavy fighter, and had a good pedigree.

Trained briefly by former World Heavyweight Champion Joe Louis

After boxing he played professional football in Canada for a brief time.

I've only ever seen the stoppage in the Moyer fight, which seemed a bit premature. It'd be interesting to see the rest of the bout to put it in some context.

I don't have the fight against Moyer but I can upload the fight against Tonna at some point.

Moyer I believe was the only man to have fought both Sugar Ray Robinson and Carlos Monzon. He was also the first light middleweight champion of the world.

Although a fortnight before Moyer's win Emile Griffith won a version of the light-middleweight title, but it was only recognised by the Austrian Board.
