  • Bare knuckle boxing

Yo, i'm takin a look at some Bare knuckle boxing videos and these dudes are no joke. It's heavily favored by the irish and they're fcukin tough. Can you imagine that's how they used to fight back in the old days? That's the ultimate gentleman's fight.

Fcukin brutal. Obviously it's hard to get footage from the old days, but the present irish bare knuckle footage is fcukin raw.

I don't think i'd be able to do that. Imagine the top prize fighters sqaubbin with bare knuckles. Crazy.

Fists are definately a deadly weapon. Lethal...

Not to degrade MMA fighters, but that's the one difference. Boxing is clean str8 fighting. MMA is holding and rolling and all that stuff. IMO, i think it's harder to fight a structured, organized match with rules and regulations.

I'm gonna do some research on bare knuckles. If i had to box someone on the street, that's how i'd settle it. For mone of course.

On a similar note, here is some unlicensed boxing involving Lenny McLean and Roy Shaw. It's brutal stuff, and if boxing were to get banned, this is what we'd end up with.

The gloves have been blamed for several ring deaths. They protect the bones in your hands, so you can hit a lot harder without breaking the bones.

But the old bare knuckle days were certainly rough. A round wasn’t over until one of the combatants went down (though a lot of pushing and wrestling were involved). One single fight could last longer than today’s multifight events. And between rounds, the fighters often used alcohol to handle the pain. So, in a long fight they could become rather pissed. In many cases, the bout was also ****ed with the excitement whether the police would get wind of the venue and storm the place. All in all, it must have been fun for the onlookers.

In a ring right? I mean, the bouts today are done on the street. Irish Bare knuckle boxing (present day) has more technique and skill behind it. In the states, they don't box they brawl. Not nearly as exciting as actually BKB.

They're hella precise. Not a whole lot of combinations but devestating blows.

        Here's a really good match:

This is new territory for me, I've never heard of this Irish variant before. The guys on the tape seemed to be in very good shape.

I've heard about BNB and seen some footage. Only recently did i start delving into the BNB culture. It's very popular with the Irish. "Gypies or Pikes" do this stuff. I think it's has to do more with culture than testosterone.

Did you notice how strategic their punches were? It was a clean fight still bounded with regulations and honor. Fcukin brutal. It wasn't a brawl or an ugly fight. It was a fcukin boxing match. A little more than street boxing and a little under conventional boxing.

Enzo Calzaghe had to have been exposed to BNB in his day growing up.

BNB, now that's fcukin fighting. If i ever had a dispute on the streets, i'd challenge someone to a BNB match. They probably wouldn't want to hang, but it's be dignified with honor instead of brawling like a meat head.

i think it take a little bit more strategy and focus. Once you get caught it's lights out. Assuming that someone knows how to box in the first place.

This is a GREAT topic. and don't worry about degrading MMA figthers...they are all just amateur bums, a fight fan and a fighter for YEARS clearly knows the difference. Boxing is the ULTIMATE combat man vs. man and those videos posted are EXCELLENT!

indeed, there is nothing more dangerous than being hit with the force of punches, with or without gloves, each option has its own unique dangers. these bums these days (mma fighters) just don't understand how CRUEL AND INHUMANE boxing history is....and many boxers here know, your fists are your FASTEST offence and your feet are your FASTEST DEFENSE. I can clearly see the mistakes made by MMA fighters, I just don't point them out verbally because i use it to my own advantage against them in the streets. anyway, great post.

has anyone ever read the book "using boxing as the ultimate martial art"...i believe its called...or "winning street fights using the skills of championship boxing."....written in the "bruce lee" era...the author clearly states that using boxing skill/dirty techniques is how you walk away the victor in a dispute.
