Former light heavyweight boxing world champion and author Jose Torres sadly passed away on Monday morning in Puerto Rico. On 19th July 1985, a then 19 year-old Mike Tyson in only his sixth fight knocked out Larry Sims in the 3rd round at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center, Poughkeepsie, New York, USA.
This photo, taken by Steve Lott immediately after the win, shows Torres at far right, with legendary trainer Cus D’Amato (left), who trained all three boxers, alongside two-time heavyweight world champion Floyd Patterson and future heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson.
With Jose’s death, Tyson is the only one of the four who is still alive.
