Jose Luis Ramierez already gave Arguello all he could handle even knocking him down in there fight. JLR is a very under rated fighter. Easily Ramierez could have got the win but they gave it to Arguello.

As for Arguello Duran I would go with Duran at 135.
i'd be referring to rounds 1-5, and a few of the later rounds in the fight where duran dictated damn near every moment against a fast handed fighter who couldn't dominate very well standing in front of him...seems like you look for a reason to hop into Duran threads and downplay this...o well, he won that one and would win the arguello fight,,,after a tough long fight.

I would also take Duran. If you stood in front of him you generally got beaten by him and being at lightweight I think it would definitely be a victory for him. A little known fact is that two of Duran's lightweight victims, Ernesto Marcel and Vilomar Fernandez were the only two guys to beat Arguello in his prime, apart from Pryor, though you could argue whether he was in his prime still at that stage.

Arguello was good but Duran was at his absolute peak in 1980...imagine a Duran/Leonard 1 beatdown exept at 135...too much for arguello to handle, even tho he has his moments

I never saw a duran/leonard 1 beatdown. When did that happen? What i saw was duran win a fight by a total of 4 point between 3 scorecards, and a fight he won all of the 1st 4 rounds on each of the 3 judges scorecards.

Sounds to me like it was a close fight, that leonard willingly, went toe toe and this having his back against the ropes willingly (you can not point to a section in that fight where duran cut off the ring vs ray or made him fight his fight, ray came in the fight to do so) and since people were not used to seeing ray in this type of fight, it is blown out of proportion.

Duran won, fair and square, but he took a lot of punishment too, and it was a close great fight by both of them. In fact form round 5 on ( you do the math) leonad won more rounds on each and every one of the judges scorecard than Duran did. Hmmm not to mention how he made duran quit 5 months later...

ohh I see your respone..However Ilike to set the record straing for all you that falsly like to hype up Duran Whipping leonard like you did. Duran barely ecked out a decison and to correct you it was really rounds 2-4 where he clealry dominated Loenard. Ray won rounds 5 easily. Yes there were some great rounds by duran in the later part, but none where he dominated every moment of the found. NONE!! IN fact almost every round had parts where both had good moments. It was one helluve a fight by Duran, he clearly brought it to Ray, however, Ray took his best shots, fought Durans fight, and brought it right bact to him

IMO ray woke up too late from a great shot he caught in round 2, and thus he was 4 pts down. In fact if you look at every scorecard this was the case as one 2 cards where durna by 1 point, one had duran by 2 points. If Duran won rounds 1-4 ( he didnt even land single punch to the head in round 1) that mathatically tells you who won most of rounds form rounds 5-15.

It is funny how duran fans through in over exaggerated words, when clealry he did not whip Loenard, he beat leonard in a great fight, he was the aggessor and forced ray to realize that he needs to fight his fight for now on.

When he fought his fight Durans fans never like to discuss that.

I'm a big Duran fan & Leonard has 2 b given his due 4 fighting Duran's style of fight.
people forget duran had 2 move up 12 pounds Leonard by far da stronger man but Duran beat him fair & square it was 15 great rounds thanks 2 Leonard going toe 2 toe Leonard proved himself a champ that night & he said he never again fight Duran da way he did cos he would be beat.maybe that's why we had no mas but it wasn't what Duran said .he said he would not fight this clown again when Carlos Aleta told him to fight on he repeated will not fight this clown.pound 4 pound manos de peidra is in the top ten of all time he punched way above & beyond his weight nobody can take that from him

                      Ah two of my faves

But one of them has to go down. I sometimes surprise people when I say this, but... Duran in 8. That's right. Arguello was a magnificent fighter, no questions. Unfortunately, he does not have the tools to keep Duran off of him. Roberto is too relentless, too quick, hit too hard. Arguello had average foot speed at best and would be cut off consistently. His long midsection would be an inviting target for Duran's pit-bull type offense. Here's the clincher... Arguello would NOT create distance when this happens which would have been his undoing. Every time the fight has gone inside he's fought back inside and Alexis wasn't bad, in fact he was excellent for a tall lanky guy on the inside. But nobody, NOBODY was better inside than Duran. Duran eats him up. Just one of those match ups in which one guy's weaknesses/habits fit another guy's strengths. Roberto sends Alexis out on a stretcher.
