yeah boxrec isnt perfect guys like jimmy wilde had like 1000 (unsanctioned) fights and they arent all listed on boxrec...

and similarily the guys on his record who were 0-0 might have like 30 or 40 unlisted fights......

    same with zarate

I've researching the Bantamweight division to try an figure out my own Top 10 All time, and it's looking more and more like Carlos Zarate could possibly be very overrated.
He has more bums on his resume than anyone in the top 10 I'm looking at.
And people here have said don't look at the bums, look at the good fighters he fought and beat, well they are not there, if he as awesome, some rate him #1 or 2 all time at BW, then why was he so easily beaten by several guys when he moved up just 1 weight class, he was terrible at JBW, he lost at BW to Lupe Pintor who is not found in 1 single top 10 all time at Bw anywhere, and the other fighters with solid records he beat are basically nothing much to talk about either.
He Fought Wilfredo Gomez who was not a big JBW, he began at BW and could not even give him a decent fight, I've watched all i can on Zarate, I would pick several others to beat him, he reminds me a little of Jaime Garza, built his awesome ko record against bums and ran into a couple of just decent top 10 guys and lost, actually was knocked out, this is how I am seeing Zarate.

Zarate was a legit champ. Devastating puncher who got beaten by the very best he faced.

          This.

I love boxrec for what it is. But what it isn't is perfect.

              It's a nice point.

I know it took some bravery, bravo.

I like Zarate's performances a lot. He is a scary mudder fooker. But yeah, there are gaps in his resume.

I don't hold the gomez loss against him. Gomez was damn near perfect. He really could crack. And the jump from 118 to 122 is actually huge.

Zarate retiring at his peak... and then returning. Really hurts his resume.

But you also have to remember that the bookends of Boxing are more sparse on talent because there's just less humans that size. How many dudes do you know today who are the same size as your middleshcool daughters? yup.

I'd say Zarate is a top 5 Bantamweight. I might even pick him over everyone else at that weight except Jofre.

It may be BoxRec just haven't found recorded fights for those other guys (and their probably not looking too hard either), and I'm sure just about each and every one of those records have a disclaimer on the bottom saying something along the lines of "this record may be incomplete and/or inaccurate".

It's worth noting that a couple of years ago, the BoxRec record researchers stated that they estimated that they only had about 5% of the fights on their site that have taken place throughout history.

A guy with a 0-0 record may have been exactly that entering a fight. But then again, he may have had a number of fights throughout his homeland that just haven't found their way onto the site.
                Very good post and true!
