I hope this is an appropriate post. I've been looking for this info, this looked like a site with folks who might know the answer! My dad was a boxer in the 1920's and 30's in Michigan and then for the Army Air Force. Many tales of catching trains with other hobos to get to fights. He took lessons from a pro boxer imprisoned at Jackson Prison (MI's state penitentiary). Per the old tales, the guy had been imprisoned after a brawl gone bad, and the guards let him give boxing lessons to the public. My Dad got recruited by a colonel in the Army Air Force as a "personal boxer", then fought other colonel's boxers. It was a good meal ticket during the Depression. My son was asking me about the jailed boxer, but I can't find any info on the character. Ring a bell with anyone?
Thanks!
