Holmes-Cobb was also close in time frame to Mancini-Kim, so that didn't help Cosell's views on boxing and the public's view on boxing either.

You can argue that boxing in America has never really recovered from 1982. That led to the decline of boxing on network TV.

Good point. All those people who watched Mancini vs. Kim literally watched a man get beat to death on public TV. Has there even been a boxing match on network TV since that fight?

The fight didn't outward kill boxing on network TV. They still had boxing on network TV for years after that, but it became harder for boxing to get sponsors and overall just has declined.

Cobb was a loveable person and the best interview of the day. I think Cosell really liked him and felt sorry for him thereby forgetting his role as neutral commentator. Or perhaps the nature of boxing as a hurt-game finally turned him off.
yeh i saw that fight even holmes didnt want to hit the guy no more that was some pathetic refereeing.
Holmes carried him to the 15th because he felt sorry for him but made sure he won rounds to.
Also ali- holmes is a mention even though ali was shot that was one sided imagine if it carried on? dundee is a gd trainer and stopped it the ref should of.

Ali was heavily drugged from weight-loss pills in that fight. He couldn't move after round 1.

I agree. While Liston was outboxed, the fight was far from one-sided. Ali vs. Liston II, though rather brief, was more one-sided.
