Well Eddie Sherman was a lightweight back in the day of same day weigh ins and looks pretty stocky, so I'd say he's only about 5'2". Still Morris looks pretty huge for the day, maybe 6'6" or so.

He's a big guy even by today's standards. The photo with the smaller fighter makes him look even bigger, it's a great photo BTW.

Dempsey beat a few giants in his era which you cannot take away from him, however all though times and boxing was much different back then I don't think these big guys had much boxing skill like todays giants.

I've got a dvd with a few Dempsey fights on it, Jess Willard was a pretty big dude. Schmelling was pretty mammoth too.

You mean Max Schmelling? He wasn't too big and I don't think he fought Dempsey

Dempsey used the height and reach of the tall fighters to his advantage: he got inside and smothered them, preventing them from being able to extend their long arms. He was also right underneath their chin and if he wanted to **** to the body, it was a huge target. Dempsey also had great balance and agility.

yeah thats the way to beat someone like wlad if you can get on the inside you got a massive target.

Fred Fulton & Louis Firpo were another couple of really big guys that Dempsey destroyed.

Fulton was a top contender with decent skills, think he about 6'6", & Dempsey annihilated him in a round.

Firpo was about 6'3". Not so big by todays standards, but big back then.

Willard was 6'7"(?)
