Something tells me you're pulling our collective leg. If so, I'll still play the "straight man" incase you're serious. The nickname Smokin' is in reference to the rage or ferocity with which he fought. "At the bell, he came out smokin'..." Wether he smoked or not is irrelevant.

LOL! Frazier was called Smokin Joe cos once he got warmed up and into it his gloves would produce smoke with the ferocity he was punching at.
