If he only had just a little more pop in his shots, he would really have been in the upper crust of the all time elite. His best assets were his supreme confidence in himself, in his ability & skills, and also his unbelievable talent defensive-wise. He was not called "Radar" for nothing.
I think part of the reason he lost his zeal for training was that his father Gregorio was so tuff and unrelenting on him that he took the fun and then his love out of boxing. Wilfredo still loved the glamor, fame and money that went with him fighting, but he equated boxing with the hassles his father put him thru. So he decided he would get by with minimal training and rely more on his inate talent then to put himself thru the rigors of having his dad hound him thru out training.
I don't believe he is ever given his rightful respect and due by most boxing fans. Only the real knowledgable & die hard fan recognizes his oodles of natural talent.
He is now in as bad a shape as Bobby Chacon. Very sad ending to a bonafide legend.
I wish him peace.

Anyways, Benitez was one of the best defensive fighters of all time in terms of movement, in his prime, maybe the most skilled in fact in terms of head movement and slipping punches. His performance at 17 against Cervantes was awesome.
I don't consider him the best PR fighter ever though, didn't accompli9sh as much as someone like Ortiz or really even Trinidad.

Other then, he's aight. He had some pretty crazy defensive skils ala Floyd Mayweather but more of a classic sense. I thought Hearns outboxed him.
3 weight champ by the ripe ol' age of 23.
